Dilworth Maurices opens
Just minutes after the doors officially opened on the women’s clothing store, the shop was filled with milling shoppers and an empty parking spot was hard to find.
Manager Terri Kent said the move from the store’s Moorhead location allows the shop to expand in many ways.
The store will be open until 9 p.m. weekdays, 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 6 p.m. on Sundays. “So (hours) will be a little later than what we were able to be open in the mall, which is good,” Kent said.
The shop near Wal-Mart on 34th Street North is one of the few free-standing Maurices locations. Most shops are located in strip malls or shopping centers, Kent said.
Kent said the new location adds about 150 square feet of shopping and storage space from what she worked with in Moorhead.
“We’re just laid out so much more different here. We’re more square here instead of long and skinny,” Kent said. “We’re able to fit in more racks, so we’re able to fit in more (merchandise).”
The store employs about 10, Kent said, and she is hoping to hire more.
The store carries a full line of regular and plus-size casual and business clothes for women, as well as shoes and jewelry.
“We’ve got a loyal following, which is awesome, and part of that is our (sizes) 14-24,” Kent said.
To celebrate the grand opening, a buy-one-get-one-half-off sale on the entire store will run for two weeks. Customers can also enter to win three $100 gift cards.
Moorhead Center Mall General Manager Renee Thomas did not return messages Thursday seeking comment regarding plans for the now-empty space in the mall.
Dilworth City Administrator Ken Parke said the city is thrilled to welcome a new business to the city.
Parke said a third pad site, similar to Maurices and the Dollar Tree next to it, is owned by Wal-Mart and open for development.
“We’d love to see even more development,” Parke said.
