The Ralph nears 5 million mark

GRAND FORKS - Officials at Ralph Engelstad Arena said today the venue is nearing the 5 million mark for attendance since it opened in October 2001.

Attendance figures are calculated from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 annually. For the 2011-2012 year, a total of 487,382 people attended events at the Grand Forks arena.

Since it opened, the arena has a yearly attendance average of 446,795. In all, the arena has had 4, 914,742 people attend events since it opened. The total does not include daily tours, only scheduled events.

The past year was the third-highest attendance total, officials said, bootsted by the Elton John concert and the Ice Breaker college hockey tournament. Attendance at UND men’s hockey games totaled 249,501 fans, which led the NCAA in total home attendance.

The highest yearly total for attendance was in the 2004-2005 year, which included the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
