AFL-CIO calls for Oct. 15 nationwide consumer boycott of American CrystalThe AFL-CIO Tuesday called for a nationwide consumer boycott of American Crystal Sugar products on Oct. 15 in an effort to put pressure on the company to end its 14-month-old lockout.
The union has been supporting locked-out Crystal workers since early in the lockout. The call for a boycott marks its most aggressive move to date.
A relatively small percentage of Crystal’s sales are from consumer prod-ucts. Most of its sugar is sold directly to food companies.
The AFL-CIO said in a statement it hopes the boycott will bring Crystal back to the bargaining table. The company has not changed its final offer for about a year.
