Latest man camp proposal stirs controversyWILLISTON, N.D. — Another man-camp proposal, another man-camp controversy.
The latest is in Bainville, N.D., where residents Monday gathered to hear representatives of MacBain Properties explain plans to build 20 acres of dormitory-style housing and multi-family apartments. The site also would have a dining hall, gym, movie theater, laundry mat and meeting rooms.
Residents are balking because the development would more than double the town's population of 283. Man camps, or crew camps, have been halted in some communities because of infrastructure, traffic and crime concerns.
The Williston Herald reports that MacBain Vice-President John Milino says the company isn't in Bainville to “create problems.”
He says MacBain and ProCore Logistics will spend about $30 million in the area, but resident Miles Knudsen says he doubts the town will ever see that money.
