Corps award contract for bank erosion project

ST. PAUL – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, along with the North Dakota State Historical Society, has awarded a contract to H&S Contracting, Moorhead, for more than $400,000 to stabilize one of two eroding banks at the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site in Abercrombie, N.D.

Construction is scheduled to begin this fall and will be completed next summer. The corps plans to award a contract for the second bank within the next few weeks.

The project will stabilize the eroding banks to protect the existing cultural resources at the site. One historic building has already been lost because of riverbank erosion, and another building is threatened.

Fort Abercrombie is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
