The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority is meeting Friday morning at the Metrodome to finalize the design pick and announce it publicly. Five firms put in bids to design the $975 million Minneapolis stadium, including the Kansas City firm that designed Target Field, Xcel Energy Center and TCF Bank Stadium. The other firms have also designed prominent sports venues around the country.
The Sports Facilities Authority and the Vikings organization have to agree on the choice.
Groundbreaking on the new stadium is expected next year, with a goal of opening by 2016. It will be located at the site of the Metrodome, on the eastern edge of downtown Minneapolis.
