Fargo's Hawthorne Elementary briefly locked downFARGO – Hawthorne Elementary School was locked-down for about 15 minutes this morning, as police were investigating a situation at a nearby residence, Fargo School District officials said.
About 10:30 a.m., the Hawthorne building engineer was told by police that officers were trying to secure a residence in the area of Fifth Street and Seventh Avenue South, according to an email from Clara Barton-Hawthorne Principal Tanya Lingle.
Police advised that all of the access doors at Hawthorne, including the front doors, be locked as a precaution, district spokeswoman AnnMarie Campbell said.
Campbell said teachers were notified of the lockdown individually and that teaching continued.
“The students and staff at Hawthorne campus were not in immediate danger and the lockdown was a precaution,” Lingle said.
The lockdown ended when police informed the school that they had resolved the unidentified problem, Campbell and Lingle said.
