Bodies of Wisconsin man and his dog found in burned camper

DAIRYLAND, Wis. - The body of a Dairyland, Wis., man and his dog were found early Friday in a camper trailer that had burned.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Dairyland Fire Department were dispatched to the fire at 2978 E. Knutson Rd. about 2:30 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found the trailer engulfed in flames. The body of John J. Harris, 47, was found after the fire was extinguished.

Harris had been a member of the Dairyland Volunteer Fire Department previously, Dairyland Fire Chief Michael Knutson said, but was not currently a member.

Douglas County Medical Examiner Darrell Witt confirmed that Harris died of smoke inhalation. There was no word Monday from the fire department or sheriff’s department on what caused the fire.
