Schatz nonrenewal of RRV Speedway official todayWEST FARGO – The Valley Racing Group’s decision to discontinue operations at the Red River Valley Speedway will become official today.
The fair board will formally accept a letter from Danny Schatz, stating his intent to not renew the contract for another three-year lease with the Red River Valley Fair Association to run the dirt track.
Schatz, who heads the Valley Racing Group, had announced at the end of August his group wouldn’t operate the track past this season. Valley Racing had operated the speedway for three summers.
The current lease officialy runs out on Dec. 31.
RRVFA general manager Bryan Schulz said he will present Schatz’s letter to not renew to the board at today’s meeting.
Schulz reiterated Wednesday the RRVFA has no intentions of taking over speedway operations. The RRVFA had operated the track from the late-1980s until 2009.
“We as the Red River Valley Fair Association we have no plans to take it over and start running it again,” Schulz said.
Schulz said one person has contacted him about running the track, but those talks have been “very preliminary.”
“It was information seeking type thing,” Schulz said.
