Oxbow officially denounces diversionOXBOW, N.D. – City officials here have formally announced their disapproval of the Fargo-Moorhead diversion, according to a WDAY News report.
Oxbow Mayor Jim Nyhof said the city will be “throwing our hat in the ring” and joining the Richland/Wilkin joint powers agreement, which officially opposes the proposed upstream dam that would wipe out Oxbow and add water into those counties in a major flood event.
Nyhof told WDAY that Oxbow had waited to join the agreement because they did not want to upset Fargo or disrupt the process, but time is running out.
WDAY reports that the Diversion Authority must pick a diversion plan by Oct. 11.
Nyhof said the city will be putting a significant amount of money toward the fight.
