Cobbers go to 3-0 for first time since 2005

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Chris Gilson caught a touchdown and ran for another as Concordia rolled to a 28-14 road victory over St. Olaf on Saturday in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football.

The game was the MIAC opener for both teams.

The Cobbers (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) stayed unbeaten and earned the “Troll Trophy,” which is awarded annually to the winner of the game.

The win marks the first time the Cobbers have started a season 3-0 since 2005.

Sophomore quarterback Griffin Neal passed for 154 yards and one touchdown for the Cobbers.

“He is getting better and better (week to week),” Concordia head coach Terry Horan said of Neal who made his third college start.

“He is reading defenses better and he has a lot of weapons around him and he used them all today.”

St. Olaf scored the last 14 points in the game. The Cobbers held the Oles scoreless through the first three quarters.

“It was an incredible team performance,” Horan said. “We dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides.”

The Cobbers host to rival St. John’s (2-1, 0-1) at 1 p.m. next Saturday.
