No. 1 Deacons top Kindred in 2A football

FARGO – Fargo Shanley appeared down-right comfortable during its homecoming football game on Friday.

Sophomore running back Danny Stasch rushed for three touchdowns as the Deacons cruised to a 43-6 win over Kindred in North Dakota high school football at Sid Cichy Stadium.

Stasch finished with 160 yards on 17 carries to pace North Dakota Class 2A, No.1-ranked Shanley (3-1).

“I wanted to have a good game, but it came down to our blocking,” Stasch said. “Our offensive line did an amazing job. The holes were there. I could not have gotten those yards or touchdowns without the line.”

The Deacons called Stasch’s number early and often.

Stasch rumbled for a

49-yard touchdown on Shanley’s second play from scrimmage. He also rushed for two more scores of 19 and 7 yards.

Stasch’s performance comes on the heels of another 100-plus yard rushing game. He had 172 yards and two TDs in the Deacons’ win over then No. 1-ranked Grafton a week ago.

“He is getting better every game,” Shanley head coach Rod Oksendahl said of Stasch. “He was a little bit tentative in the Davies game to a certain extent, but the last three games he has really ran the ball well. He is running hard, hitting holes and making great cuts and about everything you want a running back to do, he is doing right now.”

Kindred (2-2) had a hard time generating offense. Junior standout quarterback Eric Bachmeier left the game in the first half with an ankle injury. Kindred head coach Cody Kittelson said Bachmeier will be evaluated on Monday, but it was unknown on Friday the severity of the injury.

Sophomore backup Fletcher Andel stepped in and rushed for the Vikings’ only score on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.

“They can run the ball,” Kittelson said. “When they get you sleeping on the run, then they pop a pass. We knew that coming in, but we couldn’t stop them.”

Junior quarterback Chase Montplaisir was 7 of 15 passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with senior wide receiver Dan Arnold on a 75-yard touchdown strike on the Deacons’ first play of the second half.
