The nationwide contest aims to encourage waste reduction and increase household recycling. During the six-month challenge, 50 communities, one in each state, are competing against each other with the goal of generating the highest recycling participation rate in their community.
The six-month challenge kicked off the week of July 2, and the winner will be announced in January.
To help Horace win the grand prize, residents are asked to sign up for a free Recyclebank account at www.recyclebank.com/
greenchoices and report their recycling activity.
Residents signing up must report their recycling efforts at least once a month to have their efforts count toward the challenge. A smartphone app is also available to report recycling.
