Davies tops North in two-point EDC volleyball match
The winner would remain unbeaten in conference play and snatch a two-point EDC victory. The loser would drop a notch in the standings.
Davies used its balanced offense to post a 25-16, 25-22, 28-26 sweep of North at Fargo Davies High School.
“Our goal coming into this one was to keep (North) out of system and I think between our serving and being aggressive, our girls did a good job of mixing things up,” Davies head coach Heather Stuberg said. “We were able to get a lot of different hitting options.”
Senior outside hitter Kali Erickson paced the Eagles (11-2, 8-0 EDC) with 10 kills, two blocks and 24 digs.
Prior to Thursday, North hadn’t lost a set in EDC play.
“It is a big win,” Fargo Davies senior middle blocker Emily Woodbridge said. “This is incredible. Our offense was really on and our passes were good.”
Errors kept the Spartans (10-2, 6-2) from getting into any rhythm in the match.
“We made a lot errors and Davies played great,” Fargo North head coach Jerry Daily said. “Davies earned that win. They came out and came out at us hard. We didn’t respond. We had some mistakes, but Davies made us make mistakes.”
North committed 10 service errors in the match. Senior middle hitter and NCAA Division I Nebraska commit Kira Larson led the Spartans with 17 kills. Emma Bergeron added 10 kills.
Woodbridge, Kinsey Papachek, Alana Grabarkewitz and Brook Hildre each added four kills for Davies. Katelyn Olson ran the Eagles’ spread-out offense by dishing out 23 assists.
“This is a two-point EDC match,” Stuberg said. “This was big. A two-point match between two of the top-tier teams in the EDC is always a big win.”
