Fashion in Focus: Go glam with fall fashion

Never has a season in fashion been so luxurious and glamorous.

Colors are rich and bold. Fabrics are lush, and styles are feminine yet regal.

My favorite looks for autumn start with color.

Burgundy and shades of red are my favorites of the season. For me, burgundy has always been a color that says fall has arrived – and it’s to wear cozy sweaters and jackets.

The fashion world is giving this must-have shade decadent names, such as “merlot,” “Bordeaux” and “cabernet.” It’s seen in lipsticks, sweaters, shoes and handbags, and each item adds instant glam to an outfit.

Red is timeless and always in style, but this season the color goes from bright, lipstick red to crimson and scarlet. These shades are romantic, captivating and exude confidence.

For spring and summer we saw bold colors mixed with nude shoes and bags. For an updated look for fall and winter, I recommend pairing your perfect shade of red with black or gold shoes and handbags. The combination of black and red is a romantic, and gold is the accessory of the season.

If you don’t have a lot to spend, buy a lipstick or nail polish in Bordeaux or crimson. Or find a scarf or skinny jean in this beautiful hue to update your fall wardrobe without going broke.

Italian femme, French flare

Designers paid homage to the beauty and allure of the Italian woman for the fall/winter season with sexy, curve-hugging dresses in feminine fabrics, such as lace and silks.

Floral patterns, opulent baroque and intricate renaissance tapestry patterns round out the feel.

When you think Italian femininity, picture Monica Belluci, one of the most beautiful women in the world. The Italian actress – the face of Dolce and Gabbana’s latest campaign – epitomizes ageless sensuality and beauty.

Brocades are also an important look of the season. Not only did we see Italian-inspired brocades, but also Asian and French inspired brocades – all in exquisite fabrics like silks and velvets.

My favorite look this season is a totally unexpected combination.

It’s a western look with glamorous French touches: Paris meets Texas to create an haute couture cowgirl.

Silk tops with western detailing pair with silk skirts and stiletto cowboy boots. Embroidered suede pants are cropped for a modern feel and worn with lace or silk tops.

Find a feminine silk blouse to wear with your favorite dark denim skinny jeans, and pair it with a sexy pair of stiletto cowboy boots.

Hollywood glamour, military silhouettes

Also seen on the runways were military and equestrian looks, both with an aristocratic, royal feel to them.

Add a touch of the look to outfits featuring a winter coat with military buttons. Throw on a pair of riding boots with a pullover sweater and skinny jeans for an equestrian touch.

Hollywood glamour and luxury takes over shoes, hair and makeup this fall.

In shoes, think boots and high-heel, open-toe sandals and pumps. Mary Janes, patent leather pumps and high-heel loafers are shown with cropped pants and dresses. The must-have shoe of the season is an ankle or T-strap evening shoe paired with dresses, skirts or jeans.

When styling an outfit, think Rita Hayworth waves in your hair and rich, wine colors on your lips.

Make it your own

There are a lot of trends this season (more than I could get to in this column), but keep in mind that just because something is in style doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

Remember less is more for people with great style. Just take one aspect of the trend and find a piece that can fit into your lifestyle.

Simply accessorize with patent leather in a pump or handbag, or incorporate a burgundy silk chiffon blouse or dress into your wardrobe. Find an embellished purse or gold glittery one to add some fun and sparkle to your season.

Find a sexy black lace or brocade dress, and pair it with an ankle-strap heel to transform yourself into an “Italian goddess.”

Whatever you do, treat yourself, and add a little luxury and glam to your life with any of these fall trends.
