Horace third in nationwide recycling contest, hopes to move up to first for $100,000 prizeHORACE, N.D. – This small city is in third place in the SC Johnson Green Choices Recycling Challenge, so officials are asking residents to continue to pitch in for a chance to win the $100,000 grand prize for a community sustainability project.
The nationwide contest aims to encourage waste reduction and increase household recycling. During the six-month challenge, 50 communities, one in each state, are competing against each other with the goal of generating the highest recycling participation rate in their community.
The six-month challenge kicked off the week of July 2 and the winner will be announced in January.
To help Horace win the grand prize, residents are asked to sign up for a free Recyclebank account at www.recyclebank.com/greenchoices and report their recycling activity.
Residents signing up must report their recycling efforts at least once a month to have their efforts count toward the challenge. A smartphone app is also available to report recycling.
Participants can also earn deals on everyday household and grocery items from Recyclebank, throughout the challenge.
The most up-to-date leaderboard is available at www.recyclebank.com/greenchoices.
