Another garbage bin fire reported in south Moorhead overnightMOORHEAD – For the second night in a row and the 11th time since late June, firefighters responded late Monday to a fire in a Dumpster-style garbage bin in a south Moorhead neighborhood.
The fire was reported at 11:38 p.m. in the 1000 block of 17th Street South.
Moorhead Police Sgt. Rob Matheson said investigators were on the scene of the fire, which followed a similar fire reported at 9:17 p.m. Sunday at 1007 18th St. S., in a bin located about five feet from an apartment building.
“It’s a definite priority for us,” he said.
Prior to Monday night‘s fire, Fire Chief Rich Duysen told The Forum that 10 fires, all believed to be related, had been reported since June 25 in garbage bins in an area south of Minnesota State University Moorhead from roughly Ninth Avenue to 11th Avenue between 18th and 19th streets south.
No buildings have been damaged so far, but officials are concerned a fire could spread to a nearby structure, Duysen said.
