Favorite things: Holt’s favorite things about fall
FARGO – Though temps were still in the 80s, I knew fall had arrived when photos of Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes started popping up on Facebook.
The return of pumpkin coffee drinks, breads, muffins and scones at places like Starbucks and Caribou is probably my favorite thing about fall. Here are some of my others:
Fall foliage. I’d take yellow, orange and red leaves over lush greens any day, but I have to soak it in while it lasts because they change fast.
Pumpkin or apple anything. I already mentioned pumpkin drinks and baked goods, but I love pumpkin anything, and everyone seems to come up with something made with pumpkin for the fall.
Same goes for apples, especially pie (served with sharp cheddar cheese, please, per Holt family tradition) and cider.
Hoodies and sweaters. Half of my closet is devoted to long-sleeve hoodies and sweaters, and fall means I can wear ’em again. I’m much happier in cozy fleece or wool than in summer knits.
Halloween and Thanksgiving. Two of my favorite holidays fall in the fall, and although I may not go all-out every year, I still enjoy the costumes, jack-o’-lanterns and candy of Halloween and the turkey, stuffing and pie (pumpkin, of course) of Thanksgiving.
Crisp, cool air. I’d rather be cold than hot, but fall weather (REAL fall weather) is perfect. I love the fresh crispness of the air, and I sleep better at night.
Scarves and boots. I’m no fashionista, but adding a scarf
to an outfit makes it look like I put in a little more effort, and a good pair of fall/winter boots feels great.
