The Fargo Moorhead Area Association of Realtors has elected new officers for 2013. Those elected are:
Kevin Fisher, Park Co. Realtors, president; Jeff Shipley, Keller Williams Roers Realty, president-elect; and Jodi Tollefson, Park Co. Realtors and LuAnn White, Coldwell Banker First Realty, three-year directors.
DeAnne Mason, Prudential Premier Real Estate, was elected to serve as a North Dakota Association of Realtors director.
Jessica Hoppe joins lung association board
Jessica Hoppe, relationship manager for Alerus Financial, Fargo, has joined the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest Board of Directors.
Hoppe has been involved with the United Way as campaign co-chairwoman, loan executive and investment review panelist. She also serves on various committees at the Plains Art Museum, Fargo.
FirstChoice Clinic picks executive director
The FirstChoice Clinic Board of Directors has appointed Tom Frei as the new executive director.
He replaces Pauline Economon, who has been resigned. Economon and her husband, George, will continue to serve in advisory roles at the clinic and as volunteers.
Frei has more than 25 years of faith-based institutional experience, including working as a high school science and writing teacher for 10 years at the Heights School, Potomac, Md., and most recently working as secretary of education and formation for 15 years with the Diocese of Fargo.
Awards presented at Concordia fall banquet
At the annual fall faculty and administration banquet at Concordia College, Alexander Sze, systems specialist in information technology services, was presented the Ole and Lucy Flaat Distinguished Service Award; Mark Jensen, professor of chemistry, was presented the Ole and Lucy Flaat Distinguished Teaching Award; and Betty Larson, professor of nutrition and dietetics, received the Reuel and Alma Wije Distinguished Professorship.
The Flaat awards were endowed by Ole and Lucy Flaat, lifelong farmers in the Red River Valley, and the Wije professorship recognizes superior classroom teaching and significant service to the college and the church.
Sze has served as a teacher and administrator since 1979 at Concordia, where he implemented the college’s degree audit system and the first commercial business system.
In 1997, Jensen joined the faculty of the chemistry department, where he headed the development and launch of vocation and the health professions.
Larson has directed the dietetics program at Concordia for more than 25 years and she now serves as chairwoman of the department.

Inc. magazine has named Pedigree Technologies, Fargo, to its annual 500/5000 ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.
The list represents the most comprehensive look at America’s independent entrepreneurs.

Zorbaz Detroit Lakes site named top team
The Zorbaz location in Detroit Lakes, Minn., was been named “Tom’z Top Team” during Zorbapalooza on Aug. 21 at Cragun’s Resort, Brainerd, Minn.
The award was started 11 years ago as a way to establish and encourage a friendly operational competition among all Zorbaz locations. It recognizes the location that does the best job encompassing, embracing and displaying the essence of Zorbaz.
This is the fourth time the Detroit Lakes location has won the award.
Four members of the Detroit Lakes staff have also earned awards: Aaron Colby and Mike “Chubba” Netland each received the Zpirit Award; and Jamie Maloney and Michael “Zpike” Quam each won a $500 scholarship. Maloney attends Bemidji (Minn.) State University and Quam attends the Minnesota Center for Glass Arts, Minneapolis.
Pierce named a top PR, social media expert
Michael Pierce, digital strategist and director of Odney’s strategic engagement team, has been named one of the “Top 100 Public Relations Firms and Publicists of 2012 Who Know Press and Social Media Too” by Sparkah Business Consulting.
The list includes some of the best-known individuals and companies in the fields of public relations and social media from across the country, including Fleishman-Hillard, Ogilvy PR, Nielsen, Business Wire and Media Bistro.
Pierce manages digital media efforts for various regional and national accounts for Odney, which operates offices in Fargo, Bismarck and Minot, N.D., and in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Volk elected commander of VFW of North Dakota
Steven A. Volk, a retired Navy submariner and life member of Post 1868, Harvey, N.D., has been elected commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of North Dakota.
Other officers elected are: Emery Fisher, Devils Lake, senior vice; Neil Prochnow, Mantador, junior vice; Leroy Miller, Anamoose, judge advocate: William Tuff, West Fargo, surgeon; Dale Nabben, Bismarck, chaplain; Dale Ronning, West Fargo, quartermaster-adjutant; and Robert Volk, Harvey, chief of staff.
