Kushner, Strayed announced for UND Writers Conference

GRAND FORKS – Tony Kushner, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Angels in America,” and Cheryl Strayed, who wrote the acclaimed best-selling memoir “Wild,” will be among the authors featured at the 44th annual UND Writers Conference here next spring.

Kushner’s presence at the writers conference March 19-23 at UND was confirmed Tuesday, said Crystal Alberts, co-director of the conference.

“A Portrait of an Artist” will be the theme of the UND Writers Conference, a prestige event that attracts top writers for a week of panel discussions, readings, a film festival, workshops and more.

The conference is free and open to the public.

Other featured authors will be poet Ed Bok Lee; Dorothy Allison, author of “Bastard Out of Carolina”; Gary Shteyngart (“The Russian Debutante’s Handbook”); memoirist Nick Flynn (“Another Bullshit Night in Suck City”); poet Mary Jo Bang (author of an acclaimed translation of “Dante’s Inferno”); and novelist Richard Bausch (“Something Is Out There”).
