Mandan bribery suspect pleads guilty to lesser chargeMANDAN, N.D. — A man accused of offering a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper up to $3,000 to get out of a drunken driving arrest has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
Matthew Hystad, of Mandan, had been charged with felony bribery. The Bismarck Tribune reports that he pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge, was given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay $325 in court fees.
Authorities say the trooper pulled over Hystad on July 6 for speeding, and that Hystad offered the officer money after being arrested on suspicion of driving drunk. Hystad later pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and was ordered to serve five days in jail and pay $750 in court fees.
