Park Christian opens with 341 studentsMOORHEAD – Park Christian School opened Monday with 341 students in grades K-12, spokeswoman Teresa Nickel said.
“We’re really excited” with the opening numbers, which are close to last year, Nickel said. “It’s good to be back in business.”
The school has 179 students in kindergarten through sixth grade, 51 students in junior high grades seven and eight, and 111 students in grades nine through 12, she said.
Park Christian no longer teaches preschool, Nickel said.
The school consolidated its Fargo campus with the north Moorhead site last year, and the current school doesn’t have the room to include preschool, she said.
Park Christian opened with a new wood gym floor and bleachers, Nickel said. The student parking lot was also paved this summer.
Volleyball players practicing their setting filled the gym Monday after school.
“One of the alumni cried when she saw the floor,” Nickel said.
Park Christian has adjusted its class schedules to accommodate bus route time changes caused by Moorhead School District’s schedule changes, the school’s website stated.
Grades K-6 are in class from 8:05 a.m. to 3:05 p.m., and grades 7-12 are in class from 8:05 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.
Earlier this year, Park Christian announced it had received a donation of 40 acres of land on 40th Avenue South east of 28th Street in Moorhead.
Park Christian President Kent Hannestad said that a new school could be built on the site in three to five years, depending on how quickly funds are raised.
