Moorhead felon gets 9 years in federal prisonMINNEAPOLIS – A 27-year-old from Moorhead was sentenced Thursday in federal court here to nine years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
A U.S. District Court judge sentenced Justin James Rodriguez, who has felony convictions on drug and theft charges, after officers found a shotgun in his vehicle in early 2011. As a felon, Rodriguez is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Officers found the gun while searching Rodriguez’s vehicle after they had spotted a stolen jacket in the car. They also found photos of Rodriguez holding the gun, seven shells and one spent shell. He admitted to possessing the weapon on Jan. 27, 2011, and he pleaded guilty Jan. 25, 2012.
