Souris River levee system in Minot to get final repairsMINOT, N.D. — The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to complete repairs to Souris River levees damaged by historic flooding last summer.
Minnesota-based Ceres Environmental Services landed the $469,000 job of restoring multiple levee sites in the Minot and Burlington areas. Construction is to be done by the end of the year.
The corps has spent nearly $3 million fixing the levee system since the 2011 flood. The agency says that once the final repairs are done, residents will have the same flood protection they had before the flood.
Separately, U.S. Sen. John Hoeven says the corps is giving Minot $1.9 million for sanitary sewer repairs that he says are essential in the effort to develop new housing. Ground was broken Thursday for a $109 million housing and retail project.
