Uff da: Lobster and Lefse Festival canceledFARGO – For this year at least, lovers of lobster and lefse will have to get by without the unique food pairing.
Randy Long, organizer of the third annual Lobster and Lefse Festival that was scheduled for Sept. 6-8, said the event was canceled last week after a vote by the F-M AM Rotary Club’s Board of Directors.
The club had sponsored and helped organize the festival the past two years.
“The board voted to cancel the event due to lack of club participation,” Long said Monday. “It just got to be too big of an event for the club to run.”
About 5,000 people attended last year’s event, held at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.
Because of the cancellation, the Rotary club is selling its remaining inventory of lobsters. One case of eight lobsters costs $70, and orders can be placed through Mike Turchin at michaelturchin@gatecity
Meanwhile, Long is in the process of forming a committee to help plan the 2013 Lobster and Lefse Festival, which he said will continue to be a volunteer-run fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations.
At last year’s event, the Rotary club raised $11,000 for several nonprofits.
