NDSU re-evaluating Chris Berg's role as a sideline reporter
The Bison athletic department said it is reviewing the situation and hopes to reach a conclusion by the end of this week. The NDSU contract with Valley News Live and the North Dakota NBC Network calls for the network and the university to “mutually agree” to the on-air talent, said Jeremy Jorgenson, the NDSU director of broadcasting.
“What was said has made us re-evaluate the situation,” Jorgenson said. “Basically, just what was said, really. That’s the best way I can put it.”
Last week, on his “Chris Berg Show” that airs on the Valley News Live website, Berg took Pam Gulleson to task for her stance on the long-term viability of the Social Security program. He referenced Hitler’s “Big Lie Theory” and read a passage from a book on Hitler.
Berg has since apologized.
The Fargo South graduate and former quarterback at Stanford and Northern Iowa was named to the NDSU broadcast team last week.
The Bison open their season a week from Saturday against Robert Morris University (Pa.). The game will be aired by the North Dakota NBC Network.
The local broadcast crew is scheduled to do six Bison telecasts. Former Valley News Live weekend sports anchor Brian Shawn will do the play-by-play with Moorhead High coach Kevin Feeney and Bismarck KFYR-TV sports director Lee Timmerman with color commentary.
