Weather Talk: Weather still mostly summery, but transformation under way

Last weekend’s cool weather may have been temporary, but we are now just a month from the autumnal equinox. The days and nights have started to become more equal in length. The weather is still mostly summery, but there have already been a couple of intrusions of fall-like temperatures.

The seasons are in transition. Over the next four weeks, the transformation to fall will become complete. Expect more and more intrusions of cool weather until eventually the intrusions will be very cold and the warmer interludes merely cool. Summer thundershowers will give way to steady, straight-form rain. Bright summer clouds with cauliflower heads will flatten and turn gray as the partly cloudy skies of summer turn to either all clear or all cloudy. Frost is likely before September ends.

Summer is not over yet. But it soon will be.
