Rhombus Guys Pizza approaches City Commission about noise complaints

FARGO – The owners of Rhombus Guys Pizza told the City Commission here they hope to do everything they can to work with neighbors who have complained of noise after the restaurant’s rooftop dining opened three weeks ago.

Rhombus Guys co-owner Matt Winjum asked the commission for a special permit that would have allowed noise after 10 p.m.

A noise ordinance prohibits loud or disruptive noises after 10 p.m. Rhombus Guys is open until 2 a.m.

Police Chief Keith Ternes said he received a few complaints regarding noise from the patio in the first two weeks of its opening, but only one complaint was made last week.

The city normally does not issue noise permits for an extended period of time, Ternes said.

Winjum told the City Council on Monday that the store is not planning any rooftop events that would be especially noisy, but he wanted to take a proactive step by approaching the commission about the issue.

Winjum said similar complaints followed the rooftop opening in Grand Forks, but no complaints have been made in recent years. He said he hopes it is just a matter of residents getting used to the rooftop restaurant and that the patio can remain open.
