Area Class 9-man football previews

Edgeley-Kulm

Coach: Jon Schiele (fourth year)

2011 record: 4-5

Players to watch: Mason Madcke, Jr., RB/LB; Logan Hanson, Sr., QB; James DeLaurier, Sr., WR; Logan Hanson, Sr., QB/DB; Tallen Berg, Sr., RB/LB; Josh Lautt, Sr., OL/DL; Aaron Madcke, Jr., RB/LB.

Coach’s comments: “Last season, we had a good group of kids and a tough region to get through, and a big group of seniors led the way for us,” coach Schiele said. “This year, we are younger and in the same region. It’ll be an uphill battle with new kids and with numbers down the way they are. It will be a challenge throughout.”

Schedule: Aug. 21-Richland, 7 p.m.; Aug. 25-Hankinson, 5 p.m.; Aug. 31-at Wyndmere-Lidgerwood, 7 p.m.; Sept. 7-Sargent Central, 7 p.m.; Sept. 14-at Lamoure-LM, 7 p.m.; Sept. 21-Strasburg-Zeeland, 7 p.m.; Sept. 28-at Napoleon-GS, 7 p.m.; Oct. 5-South Border, 7 p.m.; Oct. 12-at Ellendale, 7 p.m.

Coach: Josh Peldo (second year)

2011 record: 0-9

Players to watch: T.J. Belmore, Jr., WR/LB; Kellemon Hinton, So., RB/S; Chase Durheim, Jr., QB/S; Adam White, So., WR.

Coach’s comments: “We are pretty short on numbers. We got 16 guys on the roster, 10 with experience,” Peldo said. “Our strength will be our speed. If we can get some room to run, we should be alright. We just gotta stay healthy. We have eight of our nine players who played four quarters every game last year … there’s no substitute for experience.”

Schedule: Aug. 21-at Hankinson, 7 p.m.; Aug. 25-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood, 6 p.m.; Aug. 31-at Sargent Central, 7 p.m.; Sept. 7-LaMoure-LM, 7 p.m.; Sept. 14-at Strasburg-Zeeland, 7 p.m.; Sept. 21-Napoleon-GS, 7 p.m.; Sept. 28-at South Border, 7 p.m.; Oct. 5-at Richland, 7 p.m.; Oct. 12-Edgeley-Kulm, 7 p.m.

Players to watch: Alex Aberle, Sr., RB/LB; Skyler Neva, Sr., OL/DL; Joseph Ihry, Jr., G/DE; Garrett Erickson, Jr., QB.

Coach’s comments: “Our offensive and defensive lines are going to be key. We got some pretty big boys with a lot of experience up front,” coach Kainz said. “Realistically, for us to get in the middle of the region would be a good season for us. We are going to be a young team again this year with our skills position, but they’ve all been working hard in practice.”

Coach’s comments: “Last season, losing in the first round of the playoffs made our players hungrier. It pushed them to want to be better,” Olsen said. “We have 12 seniors, so hopefully there is a lot of leadership there, and hopefully the younger kids will follow that.”

Schedule: Aug. 24-at Thompson, 7 p.m.; Aug. 31-Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page, 7 p.m.; Sept. 7-at North Border, 7 p.m.; Sept. 14-Dakota Prairie, 7 p.m.; Sept. 21-New Rockford-Sheyenne, 7 p.m.; Sept. 28-at Lakota-AE, 7 p.m.; Oct. 5-Thompson, 7 p.m.; Oct. 12-at Cavalier, 7 p.m.

Coach’s comments: “Our expectation is to make the playoffs. That’s our number one goal,” said Triplett. “All of our kids have been starting for the last year or two, so we are no longer a young team. It’s a year that we need to make some strides forward in.”

Schedule: Aug. 21-at Edgeley-Kulm, 7 p.m. Aug. 25-Strasburg-Zeeland, 7 p.m. Aug. 31-at Hankinson, 7 p.m. Sept. 7-Napoleon-GS, 7 p.m. Sept. 14-at Wyndmere-Lidgerwood, 7 p.m. Sept. 21-South Border, 7 p.m. Sept. 28-at Sargent Central, 7 p.m. Oct. 5-Ellendale, 7 p.m. Oct. 12-at LaMoure-LM, 7 p.m.
