Three minor leaguers draw 50-game drug suspensions

NEW YORK – Three minor leaguers have been suspended for 50 games apiece under baseball’s minor league drug program.

Deshun Dixon, an outfielder in the Tampa Bay organization, and free-agent right-hander Vincent Payne Jr. were each penalized for a second violation for a drug of abuse. Dixon will begin his suspension immediately while Payne’s penalty begins when he signs with a major league organization.

Michael Albaladejo, a catcher for Washington’s Gulf Coast League Nationals, tested positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine. His ban also is effective immediately.

The commissioner’s office announced the penalties on Friday.
