Style Profile: Downtown diva enjoys fashion to the fullest
I spotted Norris at her downtown clothing and accessories boutique, Downtown Diva (formerly Haute Boutique), where she’s worked for 24 years. With her vibrant personality and colorful style, Norris embodies what the French call “joie de vivre” – cheerful enjoyment of life.
What are you wearing? A new dress – I love sundresses in the summer – and a sparkly flower necklace and earrings. I always wear big, honking jewelry.
Why did you open a boutique? I liked to play dress up and wear my grandma’s jewelry. I was always overdone and still am. I also like people to have fun, and that’s what they get to do when they come to my store.
How do you describe your style? Elegant, grown up and fun.
What’s your fashion philosophy? Laugh at yourself and constantly reinvent your style. You need to find a style that works for you. I also believe in wearing glitter to the gym. It’s important to have fun.
What accessory do you wear every day? My jeweled “Diva” pin.
Heels or flats? I love to wear anything with a 5-inch heel.
Who is your fashion icon? Diana Vreeland (a noted fashion columnist of the 20th Century) – she had offbeat, bohemian style. You noticed her. You always notice well-dressed people.
Do you have a favorite designer? I get fitted, tailored clothing from Clara in New York.
What are your favorite colors? Fuchsia and black. I’m Greek, and Greek women look good in black.
Do you have any advice for fellow fashion lovers? Dress age appropriate, don’t lie if something looks terrible on someone else, and don’t be 17 going on 35.
What do you think of the style of local women? Young women around here dress beautifully. This is your time to wrap it up (dress well) and take it out there to be seen.
Who keeps you company all day besides customers? Max the Wonder Dog. He has accompanied me at the store since the day I got him. He wears a studded collar to appear tough.
