Weather Talk: Introduction to F-M weather was cool summer of 1985I have been reminiscing lately about my first few summer months in the Fargo area.
I became the meteorologist at WDAY-TV in early May 1985. My introduction to Fargo-Moorhead weather was the very cool summer we had that year. August, in particular, was a very cool month.
After an early brief spell of days in the 80s, most of the days of August 1985 had high temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Without another reference point (beyond rather dry weather statistics), it seemed as though I had moved to a place with very cool summer weather.
Just a few years later, in 1988, I experienced our warmest summer on record. The point is, the current weather is not unusually cool. It just seems that way following all the above-average weather we have been having the past year.
