Mont. man says he won’t submit to psych eval

BISMARCK – A Montana man who told investigators that a dream led him to kidnap and kill a man in North Dakota says he will not cooperate with psychological or psychiatric evaluations.

John Bridges, 42, of Missoula pleaded guilty last week to felony murder and kidnapping charges in the death of 40-year-old Lee Edward Clay. Clay was found dead in a van that crashed in a ditch off Interstate 94 on July 6. An officer became suspicious that Clay’s injuries didn’t match the severity of the crash.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that following Bridges’ plea, Judge Cynthia Feland ordered he undergo psychiatric and psychological evaluations as part of a presentence investigation. Bridges did not protest the order at the time but later wrote two letters to Feland arguing against the evaluations.
