Featuring local trendsetters

As a 6-year-old, I changed outfits at least three times a day – I had important events to attend, like Ken and Barbie’s wedding. That was the beginning of my obsession with all things sartorial.

I’m inspired by what other people wear and how they wear it, and I hope you will be, too.

Each Monday, I’ll feature a local trendsetter on the streets of Fargo-Moorhead in our Style Profile.

I saw Hope Brown-Johnson, a student at Concordia College, at Moxie Java in Moorhead. I was drawn to her bright, watermelon-pink scarf and less-is-more fashion sensibility.

What are you wearing? Top from Heartbreaker in Minneapolis, cardigan by Ann Taylor Loft, scarf from Hot Mama in Fargo, sparkly flats from DSW, watch by Fossil, and handbag and black skinny jeans purchased while studying abroad this year in London.

How would you describe your style? Classic and fun.

Name two accessories you can’t live without: Watches and scarves. I love scarves – they dress up everything.

What’s your favorite brand of nail polish? Essie.

Where do you get your fashion inspiration? I love fashion blogs and Pinterest. I’m into The Daybook, www.thedaybookblog.com, and Kendi Everyday, www.kendieveryday.com.

Did you see any trends in London that you’re wearing now in the states? My black skinnies are London-inspired. I saw a lot of women wearing green military-style jackets, and I’ve been searching for one here.

What’s your No. 1 fashion rule? If you are comfortable and confident, you will look good!
