West Acres reports were appreciatedI thoroughly enjoyed reading Marino Eccher’s four-part series commemorating the 40th anniversary of West Acres. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet the late Bill Schlossman several times while I attended college in Moorhead in the 1980s. He was a very close friend and business partner of my uncle, John Gunkelman.
If those two, Bill and John, could see all of the new development out by West Acres today, it would truly amaze both of them. I doubt even they envisioned what would take hold out there on the remote farm land around West Acres. Their commercial real estate company (Schlossman & Gunkelman) became a leader in its field, representing a lot of the commercial and farm property that was for sale or lease near the West Acres area and also in downtown Fargo.
Bill Schlossman planted the seed 40 years ago when he developed West Acres, and the rest is history. In my opinion, the fruits of his labors and his good influence will be enjoyed by many generations to come.
