Driver in boat accident had BAC of 0.09FARGO – The 19-year-old Fargo man who was operating the boat that struck 18-year-old Nick Schmit, of Fargo, last month had a blood alcohol level of 0.09 percent at the time of the accident, according to testing done by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
After the July 4 crash on West McDonald Lake near Dent, Minn., authorities said Lucas Buerkley was operating the 2000 Crownline when the propeller of the boat hit Schmit as he was swimming.
Schmit, a former North Fargo High School goaltender, was taken by ambulance to Perham (Minn.) Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted to Sanford Health in Fargo for surgery. He’s since been released.
The lab report has been forwarded to the Otter Tail County Attorney’s Office to review for possible charges.
