Owner of Fargo cafe accused of copper wire thefts totaling more than $120,000

FARGO – The owner of a cafe here is accused of being involved with burglaries in Fargo and Bismarck in which thousands of dollars of copper wire was stolen.

An arrest warrant was issued Friday in Cass County District Court for Soran Kareen Kaka, 38, of West Fargo. Kaka is charged with conspiracy to commit theft, a Class B felony.

A police report identifies Kaka as the owner of Luna Café at 1000 45th St. S.

According to court documents, a van owned by Kaka was seen on video tape as being involved in an overnight robbery at Bergstrom Electric in north Fargo on July 9.

About $72,000 in copper wire was reported stolen from the business.

After the burglary, police placed a tracking device on the van and tracked the vehicle to Dickinson and Bismarck on Aug. 1, police reports say.

On the morning of Aug. 2, between $50,000 and $60,000 worth of copper wire was stolen from RK Electric in Bismarck.

On Monday, Kaka and two other men, Jerry Eugene Dean, 31, of Fargo, and Joel Lumbreras, 27, of Carrizo Spring, Texas, were charged in Burleigh County District Court with felony theft in relation to the RK Electric burglary.

According to Cass County court documents, the sandals Kaka was wearing at the time of his arrest matched prints taken from the Bergstrom burglary.

Police suspect the three men may have been involved in similar copper burglaries in South Dakota and Iowa as well, though no charges have been filed in those cases, court records say.
