Weather Talk: Last week brought streak of 87-degree temperaturesFor four days last week, Fargo-Moorhead had a streak of 87s. Last Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all registered a high temperature of 87 degrees. Then on Thursday, the high came in at 86 degrees, breaking the streak. The next day the high was back to 87.
In the weather office, we started talking about whether this was some kind of record. Then I recalled a streak of like minimum temperatures during the spring thaw in 2010. From March 8 through March 16, the low temperature was 34 degrees for eight of those nine days, including five in a row from March 12-16.
That 2010 streak was due to a stalled weather pattern with low clouds, fog and melting snow all contributing to holding the temperature steady. The streak of 87s last week came with the wind switching from south to north and back to south again as a front kept passing over and back. Yet somehow, we managed to hit 87 for four straight days. And almost two more.
