Pious attitudes in flag debateWhat’s with this pious attitude about lowering the flag to half-mast too often? If we actually lowered the flag for deaths of U.S. soldiers who have died in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, we would have to lower the flag to half-mast at least 6,400 times to honor the U.S. troops who have died in these wars since they have started. If we were to catch up on the flag-lowering, it would take more than 17 years of lowering the flag every day to show this honor.
I am not quite clear why people are complaining about Whitney Houston and the honor of lowering the flag for this great American icon, except for some internal and overt bias against her as contributing to the fabric of America.
I say examine what you honor and expect that the dignitaries will always take this action to remind us who needs to be honored as memorable, respected and great.
