The Forum aside, the truth will win

I like The Forum. As editors, you seem to have good old-fashioned common sense. You seem to travel down the middle of the road, sometimes veering a little to the right, sometimes a little to the left. You seem to feel the values of our community.

This gay engagement situation can be called a bump in the road. I don’t know what all the fuss is about. It would be wrong for me because I’m a Christian. But if you aren’t a committed Christian and it’s OK in your value system, who am I to say you can’t get engaged? That is so politically correct, isn’t it?

But we heterosexuals haven’t done too well in the marriage department. In Sunday’s paper, there are always many engagements but just a few long-term marriage celebrations. Half of those couples with the happy smiles and bright futures will divorce – more than that will have extramarital affairs. Some of us just shack up. Maybe we should choose quality partners instead of quantity of partners. If homosexuals follow our lead, they will probably become engaged, get married, divorce and then shack up.

It has been said that “if things keep going the way they’re headed, God is going to have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.” Let’s all try harder to honor marriage and the vows we exchanged.

The only true lasting answer to this is life in Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16. Remember: Truth is not determined by the majority. And truth will win.
