Wahpeton Post 20 tops Casselton in Division II first round

LAMOURE, N.D. – Wahpeton Post 20 defeated two-time defending North Dakota, Division II state champions Casselton Post 15 1-0 on Wednesday in the first round of the state tournament.

Post 20 second basemen Ethan Meide stepped to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning and lined a base hit to left field to score teammate Jeremy Bontjes for the only run of the game.

Bontjes tossed a complete game four hitter outdueling Casselton’s Ellery Bresnahan for the win.

“Its a big win to get under our belt right away,” said Post 20 head coach Chris Kappes. “Those 1-0 ball games are fun to be a part of fun for the fans to watch. As a coach you like to see a couple more runs, make things a little more easy but it’s a big game for us. It’s a heck of a draw for us to have to play Casselton in the first round, but we knew we were going to be in for a battle.”
