Fargo legislative leader set for surgery after ankle broken in ladder fallFARGO – He’s “not running too fast” and will need surgery for a broken ankle later this week, but Fargo lawmaker Al Carlson is otherwise no worse for wear after taking a tumble from a ladder last week.
The North Dakota House majority leader broke his right ankle in three places July 24 after a ladder fell out from under him as he was working on the roof of his lake home.
He was about eight feet up, he said, when he felt the ladder begin to teeter under him and realized he was going down.
“It was either my head or my feet, and I picked my feet,” said Carlson, a 63-year-old Republican.
He’ll undergo surgery Thursday on the broken ankle – his first major trip under the knife.
“It’s a little painful,” he said, and he’ll be off his feet for about a month. But his doctor “tells me I’ll be as good as new.”
