Letter to the editor: Sanford’s employee party is way over the top

My jaw dropped when reading about the rock band Train coming to perform for Sanford employees. My first thought was “Really? My health care provider, who is already expensive enough, is going to dish out dollars most likely at my expense?”

I understand the importance of rewarding employees, but when it involves an already expensive health care system, why does Sanford think this is an appropriate way to spend their dollars? There are so many people who can’t afford health care costs, and to see a hospital/clinic spending this much money on a luxury event just doesn’t seem the best way to “give back to the community.”

I think the idea of area groups performing (North Dakota State University drum line and FM Acro Team) is a wonderful way to celebrate and reward employees. I feel that Sanford has gone too far with this event.
