Teen driver injured in I-94 accidentDOWNER, Minn. – A 19 year-old driver suffered non-life threatening injuries in a collision with a semi near here on Interstate 94 on Friday evening, the Minnesota State Patrol said in a news release.
Douglas Darling, 19, of Devils Lake, N.D., was driving his 1999 Acura Integra westbound on I-94 near milepost 14 around 6 p.m. Friday when he attempted to change lanes, didn’t see another vehicle in his blind spot and lost control of his car, the report said.
After losing control, Darling went through the median and struck the back tires of an eastbound freightliner, driven by Mitchell Peterson, 53, of Blaine, Minn., the report said.
The report said the back axle of Peterson’s semi was torn out in the incident.
Darling’s car then struck a third vehicle. Information on the third vehicle was not immediately available.
Peterson was not injured in the crash, the report said.
