Von Pinnon: Forum Readers Board welcomes 5 new members

Meet the five new members of The Forum’s Readers Board. They join seven returning members whose terms expire in December.

Members stay on for a year, but terms are staggered by a half-year. The paper’s community sounding board chooses its own successors.

We want to first thank departing members whose terms expired in June: Katie Hutton, Aaron Lamb, Sharon L. Miller, Krista Thom and Melissa Vosen Callens.

New members are:

Kirby Anderson, 56, of Fergus Falls, Minn., is a manager of customer service projects at Otter Tail Power Co. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He is engaged, the father of two and has lived in the area his whole life.

Aaron Feickert, 24, of Fargo earned degrees in mathematics and physics at North Dakota State University, where he now works as a graduate teaching and research assistant. He is single and has lived in the area most of his life.

Matt Soberg, 32, of Baxter, Minn., is editor of Minnesota Sporting Journal and an owner and attorney at Soberg Law Office in Nisswa, Minn. He is a graduate of the William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He is married, the father of one and has lived in western Minnesota most of his life.

Kevin Tobosa, 37, of Fargo works in marketing and creative strategy at Sanford Health. He is married, the father of two and has lived in the area for 23 years.

Betsy Vinz, 70, of Moorhead earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies from MSUM. She is married, the mother of two daughters and has lived in the area for 44 years.

Returning members are:

Mary Batcheller, 29, of Fargo is an account manager at Flint Communications. She earned a political science degree from the University of Minnesota, is married and the mother of two daughters. She has lived in the area for six years.

David Buchanan, 59, of Fargo is the associate dean for academic programs in the college of agriculture, food systems and natural resources at NDSU. He has a degree in quantitative genetics, is married and the father of three. He has lived in the area for four years after growing up here and moving away for many years.

Kirk D. Carlson, 48, of West Fargo is a funeral director at West Funeral Home in West Fargo. He earned a degree in mortuary science from the University of Minnesota, is married and the father of two sons and a stepson.

Arlene Mickley, 81, of Fargo is a retired educator and business owner. She earned degrees in English, physical education, science and elementary education at MSUM. She is widowed and the mother of three children, and has lived in the area since 1953.

Danielle Teigen, 26, of West Fargo is the senior communications strategist at Ulteig. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in mass communications from NDSU, is married and has lived in the area for eight years.

Andrew Robert Thorson, 21, of Fargo is studying economics and political science at NDSU. He graduated from Fargo South High School in 2009 and has lived in the area for 10 years.

Denis Timm, 59, of Fargo earned a master’s degree in accounting from St. John’s University, N.Y., and worked as an assistant controller for a large art dealership in New York City before he retired. Timm moved to Fargo in 2009 and has been in a domestic partnership for 26 years.
