Carmel of Mary hosts pilgrimageWAHPETON, N.D. – The 56th Annual Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Prairies Shrine will take place Aug. 12, at Carmel of Mary Monastery near Wahpeton, N.D.
Children’s inflatable games, a new offering this year, will be available from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by an afternoon of prayer and reflection starting at 2 p.m. led by Father Peter Anderl, spiritual director for the World Apostolate (WAF) of Fatima, Fargo Division.
At 3 p.m., reconciliation will be available, and a rosary and WAF prayers will begin at 3:30 p.m. with Mass at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., the Knights of Columbus serve a free-will offering meal with proceeds to be donated to the Carmelites.
Pilgrims are encouraged to bring written prayer petitions so the Carmelite nuns can pray for their specific intentions. They also may bring a basket of goods from their harvest of garden produce or farm crops to be blessed at Mass and given to the nuns, if they choose. Due to the potential of seasonably warm weather, umbrellas or sun protection and cool water to drink are also suggested.
There are two roads leading to the monastery and a sign marks both of them. One road is about five miles to the west of Wahpeton on Highway 13. The other is on Highway 81, about one mile north of the junction with Highway 13. In both cases, a gravel road of about one mile’s length leads travelers to the monastery. The monastery address is 17765 78th St. S.E.
