Austrian court bans noisy cowbellsVIENNA — An Austrian court has banned cows from wearing cowbells in a field where they were disturbing the night peace, according to a ruling pub-lished Tuesday.
The judge, in the state of Styria, argued that there was no reason for the cows to wear bells as they were in an enclosed field — not an alpine pasture.
Neighbors had gone to court because they were kept awake by the sound of the cows moving at night and eating from a metal feeding trough.
Cowbells are fitted to freely roaming cows so that they can be found again if they wander off from the herd.
