ND fishing license sales down slightly in 2011BISMARCK — Historic flooding in 2011 led to a drop in fishing license sales, but it didn't keep most anglers from wetting a line.
The state Game and Fish Department says its annual angler survey showed 137,000 resident licenses were sold last year, down 2 percent over the year. But angler participation actually went up.
Fisheries chief Greg Power says the small drop in license sales is no surprise because of flooding around the state last summer, particularly along the Souris and Missouri rivers. But Power says more resident anglers fished open water than in the previous year, and a lot more anglers took part in ice fishing during the mild winter.
