Road adjacent to Main Avenue in West Fargo to temporarily close

FARGO – As part of the West Fargo Main Avenue reconstruction project, the current eastbound only one-way frontage road between 17th Street East and 45th Street Northwest will close, according to a release from the state Department of Transportation.

Motorists will be able to access businesses in the section via a new driving surface for this area. Traffic will shift from the eastbound only one-way route to head-to-head traffic with one lane in each direction on a section of the new roadway.

The current south business frontage road between 17th Street East and 45th Street Northwest will be removed and will not be replaced. each business will have a private business driveway for customers, with driveways being accessible from Main Avenue.

Businesses along this stretch of roadway will be accessible and open to the public throughout the traffic shift and driveway construction.

This newly opened section of roadway is for business access and not a through street to the Main Avenue corridor or auxiliary streets, the release state.

Crews will also temporarily close 17th Street East from Second Avenue South to Main Avenue for storm sewer and underground water pipe installation. Traffic will detour to 45th Street Northwest and/or Ninth Street East to access Main Avenue from the south.

During this temporary road closure on 17th Street East, access to the south businesses will be via eastbound and the westbound Main Avenue and 17th Street East intersection only. Motorists will not have access to Main Avenue when northbound on 17th Street East.

Throughout this traffic shift and temporary road closures, motorists traveling east and west on Main Avenue will continue to use the current traffic control in-place throughout the corridor, which is head-to-head one lane in each direction from the intersection of Main Avenue and 45th Street Northwest until Fifth Avenue North.
