Dickinson State stadium named for coachBISMARCK — Dickinson State University's football and track stadium has been named for longtime football coach Hank Biesiot.
Biesiot has been Dickinson State's coach since 1976. He's on the verge of becoming the winningest football coach in NAIA history. He's going into the fall season with 255 wins — only two short of breaking the record.
North Dakota's Board of Higher Education agreed to rename the Badlands Activities Center in Biesiot's honor. The facility replaced Whitney Stadium two years ago.
Board policy frowns on naming college facilities for people who are still working there, but the board agreed to make an exception for Biesiot.
Dickinson state President D.C. Coston says Biesiot is an outstanding coach and humble mentor to young people. Coston says Biesiot is also active in civic life.
